About Us

Our Story

    Datong Academy began in 2014 as a small Chinese learning group of just three children.

    In 2018, it was officially founded by Dr. Zhiwei Liu, a linguist who had previously taught at the College of Chinese Language and Culture, Beijing Normal University, and the Department of East Asian Studies, Princeton University.

    From the founder to every teacher, all members of Datong Academy hold advanced degrees in relevant disciplines such as Chinese literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, education, and Teaching Chinese as an International Language. Bringing together the strength of experts, Datong Academy provides tailor-made, professional Chinese learning experiences for each student.

    Our curriculum is diverse and precisely designed, catering to learners of different ages, language levels, and cultural backgrounds. We create personalized content and teaching methods, ensuring that every child learns Chinese effectively—without detours.

​Principle Liu

Founder of Da Tong Learning Center. PhD in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Beijing Normal University. Former faculty member at the School of International Chinese Language Education, Beijing Normal University, and the Department of East Asian Studies at Princeton University. With extensive experience in language education both in China and internationally, she has authored and published numerous academic papers, Chinese language textbooks, and a classifier (measure word) dictionary.

Ms. Chen

Graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC), specializing in Chinese Language and Culture. Completed advanced studies in Chinese Language and Literature and International Chinese Education at Peking University. With years of experience in Chinese language teaching, the instructor delivers engaging and approachable classes, emphasizing practical language use and deep cultural understanding.

A senior Chinese studies and language instructor at Da Tong Avenue Academy, with extensive experience teaching Chinese both in China and abroad. The teacher has a strong foundation in classical literature, specializes in classical poetry composition, and has long taught courses on classical prose and The Book of Songs appreciation. In addition, she is a Guqin instructor. Her courses are highly popular among students of all age groups.

Master’s degree in Broadcasting and Hosting Arts from the Communication University of China. Former instructor of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts at universities in Beijing, with long-term experience in teaching oral communication and media arts.
Previously served as a host at Chongqing Television, a reporter for CCTV Agriculture Channel, and a judge for Phoenix TV’s language-expression expert panels. She has also worked as a voice-over artist for People’s Daily Online and Xinhua News Agency, and participated in the editing and compilation of oral-communication textbooks for youth and children. In addition, she has performed in stage productions such as Beijing South Courtyard and appeared in multiple film and television works.

Ms. Lu

Graduated in China from a four-year Early Childhood Teacher Training Program and later from Shandong Normal University with a degree in Education. She holds a Senior Teacher Certificate and a National Mandarin Proficiency Certificate (Level 1-B). She has received multiple provincial- and municipal-level awards for excellence in education and teaching, and brings nearly 30 years of teaching experience.
Ms. Wang is highly approachable, patient, and attentive, with a solid pedagogical foundation. She emphasizes differentiated instruction, actively engages students in the classroom, and employs lively, effective teaching methods that are deeply appreciated by her students.
